The Sudanese President announced the restoration of peace in Darfur

PRETORIA, 7 September. /TASS/. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir announced the termination of the prolonged armed conflict in the Darfur region in the West of the country and the restoration of peace there. He spoke at a rally in the administrative centre of North Darfur state, where he met there the current Chairman of the African Union, the President of Chad, Idriss Déby Itno and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

"We declare to all the people in Darfur and in the Sudan on the implementation of its obligations", - said the President of the Sudan, referring to the crowd of thousands. Al-Bashir announced the successful completion of the peace talks on Darfur, which began in 2011, in Doha under the mediation of the authorities of Qatar between the government of Sudan and the rebel movements in Darfur. We are talking about the end of one of the largest and most protracted in the history of armed conflict, which since 2003 has claimed the lives of about 300 thousand people, 2.5 million were internally displaced.

"The things in Darfur are better today than yesterday, and tomorrow will be even better - said Omar al-Bashir. We pave roads, provide decent education, health care, supply of drinking water and electricity. We will achieve reconciliation between all Darfur tribes".

Thus ended the peace talks, which began in 2011, in Doha under the mediation of the authorities of Qatar between the government of Sudan and the rebel movements of Darfur.
